José María Sciutto was born in Junín, Argentina. He studied at the Facultad de Bellas Artes of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina) and obtained the title of Choir and Orchestra Director. He has a large concert activity carried out in important European, Latin American and American concert halls with a symphonic-choral repertoire and Latin American contemporary music. He has conducted numerous orchestras including, in Italy, the G. Verdi Orchestra of Milan, the Abruzzese Symphony Orchestra, the Marchigiana Symphony Orchestra, the Pro Arte Marche, the Junior Orchestra of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, the “Italian Conservatories Orchestra”, the Bari Symphony Orchestra, the Tito Schipa of Lecce, the“ L. D’Annunzio “in Pescara, The Soloists of Aquila; in Argentina, the Sinfonica Nacional, the Orchestra of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, the Chamber Orchestra of La Plata, the Symphony of Bahía Blanca, the Symphony of Tucumán; in Romania, the Timisoara Opera Theater Orchestra and Choir, Craiova’s Oltenia, the Bacau Symphony and the Balcea Symphony.
He has also conducted the Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra, Costa Rica’s Juvenil, the Dominican Republic Conservatory Orchestra and the Florida State University Juvenil Orchestra. He carries out an intense activity as a teacher in university master classes for the training of choir and orchestra conductors and is the author of a method of children’s choral pedagogy that has a wide application in Latin America and Italy. Since 1992 he has been a lecturer at the “L. D’Annunzio” Conservatory in Pescara. He is the Artistic Director of the “Music for Peace” program of the United Nations; consultant for the Latin American Institute of Rome “and for the” Center for Music of the Americas “of Florida State University; he is a member of the “American Conductors Association” and the “FullBright Program”. He was a member of juries in international solo and choral singing competitions. From 2001 to 2005 he was Director of the Lyric Choir and collaborator in the Artistic Direction of the Lyric Theater “Ventidio Basso” in Ascoli Piceno. From 2005 to 2010 he held the position of Director of the White Voice Choir of Rome and Director of the Choral Workshop of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. From 2010 to 2017 he was director of the Choral Singing School and Director of the White Voice Choir of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. Since 2017 he has been the pedagogical and artistic director of the “Schola Cantorum Argentina”. From 2018 to 2019 he is director of the Argentine national polyphonic choir and coordinator of the four Argentine national choirs. From 2019 to today he is the pedagogical and artistic director of the program of the choral singing school of the Argentine Ministry of Culture.
